Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information The Money GPS ("we", "us") collects when you use themoneygps.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the site you consent to the practices described here.
Information we collect
- Account data — your email address and authentication details when you create an account (handled by Google Firebase Authentication).
- Payment data — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We retain your subscription status, tier, and customer/subscription IDs.
- Email / newsletter — if you subscribe, your email is stored with our email provider (Kit / ConvertKit) to deliver the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Usage & device data — pages viewed, clicks, session identifiers, browser/user-agent, and approximate engagement, collected to improve the product and understand traffic sources. This is processed by Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity (see below).
- Cookies / local storage — used for sign-in sessions, attribution (e.g. which link or campaign referred you), and analytics.
How we use it
- To provide, maintain, and secure your account and subscription.
- To process payments and manage billing through Stripe.
- To send the content and emails you signed up for.
- To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
- To comply with legal obligations and prevent abuse.
Analytics tools we use
Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymized, aggregated data about how visitors use the site — including pages visited, traffic sources, session duration, and conversion events (e.g. starting checkout or subscribing to the newsletter). GA4 uses cookies to distinguish users and sessions. Google may use this data in accordance with its own Privacy Policy. You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Microsoft Clarity
We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with the site. Clarity records anonymized session replays (mouse movements, clicks, scrolls) and generates heatmaps so we can identify usability issues and improve the experience. Clarity may collect IP addresses (anonymized), browser and device information, and interaction data. No audio, video, or keystrokes from password fields are captured. Data is processed by Microsoft in accordance with the Microsoft Privacy Statement. By using the site you consent to Microsoft Clarity processing data about your interaction with us. You can opt out via the Microsoft Privacy Choice page.
AI and large language models
Parts of this service are built on third-party AI / large language models. We currently use Google's Gemini models, accessed through Google Cloud Vertex AI and the Google Gemini API. When you use an AI-powered feature, the input for that request is transmitted to Google and processed on their systems, not ours.
What gets sent. Concretely, this includes:
- Ticker symbols you ask about. If you run a ticker through the AI Stock Analyst, ask a chart for an AI Read, or scan holdings with Portfolio Shield, those symbols are sent to Google as part of the request.
- Text you type into AI features. Your $GPS Intel query and your Thesis Lab hypothesis are sent verbatim. Whatever you write in those boxes goes to Google — so please do not enter anything confidential, sensitive, or personally identifying that you would not want to leave our systems.
- Public data we have already gathered — filings, disclosures, market data and similar — which we pass to the model to summarize or analyze.
- Search queries. Some AI features are "grounded", meaning the model runs live Google searches to answer. Those search queries are also sent to Google.
What does not get sent. We do not put your name, email address, account ID, or payment details into AI prompts. The model receives the subject of your request, not your identity.
What we cannot tell you. Once a request reaches Google, how it is handled, logged, retained, or used is governed by Google's terms and policies, not ours. We do not control, audit, or have visibility into what Google does with it, and the terms differ between the services we use — enterprise Vertex AI and the standard Gemini API have different data-handling commitments, and either may change them at any time. We are telling you this plainly rather than implying a guarantee we are not in a position to make. If that is not acceptable to you, do not use the AI-powered features; the rest of the site works without them. Google's own terms are at Google Privacy Policy and Google Cloud Service Terms.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send your personal information to AI providers in order to have it monetized, profiled, or resold. AI output is also frequently wrong — see our Disclaimer and the AI section of our Terms of Service.
The Money GPS mobile app
The iOS/Android app is separate from the points above: it has no login or account, does not use Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity, and (as of this writing) has no payments or AI-chat features. What it does keep:
- An anonymous per-install identifier. Generated on first launch, stored only on your device, and never tied to your name or email.
- Your portfolio, dashboard layout, and preferences — stored locally on your device only. We never receive or see this.
- Push notifications, if you turn them on. We store your device's push token and the alert conditions you set (e.g. "notify me if AAPL drops 5%"), tied to the anonymous identifier above, so we can deliver the alert. Delivery goes through Expo's push notification service, which relays to Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM).
You can delete everything the app has stored, on your device and on our servers, at any time from Settings → Delete My Data in the app. As paid features are added to the app, this policy will be updated to cover them.
Third parties we share data with
We use trusted processors to run the service. Each handles your data under its own policy:
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud — authentication, database, hosting.
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Kit (ConvertKit) — email delivery.
- Google Analytics 4 — behavioral analytics and traffic attribution.
- Microsoft Clarity — session recording and heatmap analytics.
- Google Cloud Vertex AI / Google Gemini API — AI processing of the requests you make in AI-powered features (see above).
- Expo (Expo Application Services) — push notification delivery for the mobile app.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers. The processors above receive only what they need to perform their function.
Data retention
We keep account and billing data for as long as your account is active and as required for legal and accounting purposes. Raw analytics activity logs are retained on a rolling short-term basis.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you may unsubscribe from emails at any time. To make a request, contact us at [email protected] or via our contact page.
Children
The service is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
